DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR

The department comprises of a number of sections namely; Industrial Relations; Industrial Relations (international affairs); General Inspectorate; Workman Compensation; Directorate of Vocational and Industrial Training(DIVT); Localization and Statistics sections.

MISSION STATEMENT

To create, maintain and improve a condusive environment for harmonious industrial relations, decent and safe working envirnment, fair conditions of work, compensation of insured workman, regulation of localisation, regulation of industrial and vocational training and elimination of all forms of discrimination at the workplace, so as to accomplish industrial peace and a fertile climate for investment.

OBJECTIVES

Promote harmonious industrial relations in Swaziland
Promote Social dialog
Promote and improve safety, health and well being of workers in work places.
To promote and improve vocational training in Swaziland.
To elevate the status of the Labour Advisory Board to cover socio-economic matters
To establish an alternative dispute resolution mechanism called "Commission for Mediation Arbitration and conciliation" to deal with labour disputes effectively and timeously.
To establish an essential service committee to assist in compilation of desirable list of essential services.
To find training facilities for conciliators, mediators and arbitrators.
To ensure the expedient passing of the Industrial Relations bill, 1998.
Promote smart partnership.
Embark on a massive educational programs involving stakeholders so as to intensify awareness of industrial relations.

Carry out labour inspections

Attend labour disputes

Attend labour complaints

Enforcement of the factories, machinery and construction works act.

Compile labour statistics

Trade testing

Computing Workmen's Compensation awards and make follow ups

Investigating true dependants in work related fatal cases

Investigation in cases of occupational diseases

Conducting workers education on workmen's compensation

Occupational health and safety inspections
