The fourth edition of the SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup was launched in style in Mbabane on Wednesday morning.
The launch was held at SMVAF Headquarters in the Capital City and was attended by dignitaries including the tournament’s Board of Trustees Chairman Prince Hlangabeza, Culture Committee Chairman Prince Bukhosi, and Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Madze Bulunga as well as the representatives of the 32 clubs set to partake in the tournament proper, amongst others.
The launch was completed with the conducting of the last 32 draw which saw three-time defending champions Mbabane Swallows being pitted against Shiselweni Super League side Young Movers. Meanwhile, last season’s runners up Royal Leopard will face former top-flight side Masundvwini Royal Swallows. The round of 32 matches will be played this coming weekend with the culture tournament set to begin next year.
Making his remarks, Minister Bulunga thanked His Majesty King Mswati for ensuring that the Ingwenyama Cup goes on for a further three years. “Before I go any further, allow me to thank His Majesty King Mswati III, the pioneer of this fantastic tournament, for ensuring that it goes on for a further three years, with a much improved package for the participants, a staggering E12 million spread over three years. The continued existence of the Ingwenyama Cup will ensure that football standards in our country continue to improve while our beautiful culture is preserved,” he said.
