The Honourable Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Bulunga today presented the country’s returning Special Olympics team with E15 000 as a token of appreciation.

The team, comprising of four athletes and two officials, returned to the country last week after partaking at the games held in Abu Dhabi earlier this month. Team Eswatini won three medals including Gold in the 100 metres achieved by Fisokuhle Maseko as well as two Bronze medals in the 50 metres.

Speaking during a ceremony to welcome the team back yesterday morning, the Honourable Minister said the country was proud of the athletes.

“I would like to congratulate you, on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, for a job well done. We are very proud of you and we appreciate the effort and dedication you showed despite the challenges you faced as you prepared for the games. As is tradition, we, through the Sports Council, have a small token of appreciation to give as a way of thanking you for the splendid job. We have said time and time again that we want to be a country that joins competitions to win and we hope that such performances will continue,” Bulunga said.

Gold medalist Maseko received E10 000 while the two 100 metres Bronze medalists, Nonjabuliso Motsa and Mancoba Magagula, received E2 000 each. Meanwhile, Lwandile Dlamini, who finished 5th in the 100 metres, received E1 000.
