16 May 2019

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) today paid a courtesy call to the Honourable Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Bulunga.

UNFPA Eswatini Officer in Charge Margaret Thwala Tembe, together with the organisation’s Communication Officer Sakhile Nsingwane, visited the Minister in his offices in Mbabane.

Thwala Tembe first congratulated the Minister on his appointment by His Majesty King Mswati III into Cabinet and further explained the organisational structure of UNFPA Eswatini and their main pillars of focus.

“We work closely with your Ministry on a number of initiatives. One of the four pillars of our focus is that of Adolescence and Youth and that is where the collaboration between our organisation and the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs comes from,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nsingwane provided the Minister with an update on an online platform called Tune Me.

“Tune Me is a platform that we use to provide young people with correct information particularly on health issues. This content has been approved by the Ministry of Health,” she said.

Making his own remarks, Bulunga thanked UNFPA for consistently supporting the Ministry.

“I know that you have been supporting this Ministry for a very long time. You have helped us review the outdated National Youth Policy and right now you are assisting us with the development of our strategic plan. We appreciate your support and we hope that this collaboration will go on for many more years,” Bulunga said.

Also present during the meeting were the Principal Secretary in the Ministry Prince Mlayeto, Under Secretary Nhlanhla Motsa as well as the Ministry’s heads of departments.
