Hon. Minister praises ‘Blanket Your Words’ initiative

21 May 2019

The Honourable Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries Bulunga today met SWAMA Award winner Majaha Nkonyane ahead of the Poet’s one-man poetry show on June 8.

Nkonyane, crowned the country’s best Poet at last December’s SWAMA Awards, will host the charity-based show at the theatre club in Mbabane. The show’s main focus is to collect blankets and clothes for the less privileged. Earlier today, the wordsmith, together with his manager Mandla ‘Cheeks’ Nxumalo, met and briefed the Honourable Minister about the upcoming event.

Speaking during the meeting, Nkonyane said it was high time artists used their talents to make a bigger impact in society.

“We think this is a good time to do this show since its winter and so many of us need the blankets and clothes. I grew up in Corporation and I know the situation there with some of the community members. It’s important for us as artists to use our talents to make a difference in society and inspire young people,” he said.

Making his own remarks, Bulunga praised the Poet for coming up with the initiative.

“This is a very good concept and I thank you for coming up with it. I urge you to market it well so that as many people as possible can see it and I am confident many will support you. I am also looking forward to further interactions with you in the coming weeks as the day of the event nears,” Bulunga said.
