SADC JOINT INVESTMENT FORUM FOR COMMUNICATIONS, ICT AND TRANSPORT

On Thursday, 20th October 2016, Ministers in for Communications, Information, ICT and Transport convened with top industry players including Chief Executive for Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), Director for Strategic Partnerships and New technologies for Huawei, with other SADC coordinating partners converged at eSibayeni Lodge to deliberate on technological advancements that can move the SADC region forward.

The Minister for Public Works and Transport Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini, in her keynote address highlighted that the creation and establishment of enabling infrastructure development projects are the key drivers for economic activity within the region and this will position SADC as a major player in the global community and enhance transformation and direct-foreign investment into the region for economic growth and social transformation.

The development partners in the SADC region need to coordinate efforts and perspectives around SADC investment options within SADC Industrialization Strategy 2015-2053 and SADC Infrastructure Development Master Plan, and collectively Government and private sector can bring into the SADC countries local and foreign investment.

The theme for the investment forum “Transport and ICT in Support of Industrialization: Enriching Nations and Enhancing Integration” The Director of Infrastructure Services for SADC Remmy Makumbe in his speech added that Governments agreed in addressing barriers of investment by launching Regional Action Programme for Investment with the primary aim of improving the attractiveness of the SADC region as an investment destination.

The important areas addressed during this forum includes; the Transformation of the SADC region into a Smart Society, issues and perceptiveness around industrialization of the SADC region, crucial strategies to accelerate industrialization and investment options that face the SADC region, SADC Industrialization Roadmap 2015-2063.

The SADC forum for Communications, ICT and Transport partners that attended this pivotal forum includes; CEO of NEPAD Business Foundation, Permanent Secretaries and Senior Officials from member states and Government, among others.
