People also called for the reduction in Pay As You Earn (PAYE) Tax, which they said, when combined with Value Added Tax (VAT) was making life difficult for many Swazis. The people also recommended that minerals mined in Swaziland should be processed in the country to increase revenue generated from these resources.

On Wednesday, the submissions focused on economic recovery and the conventions that needed ratification. The conventions under discussion were:

  • UN Convention against trans-national crime, whose aim is to promote international cooperation to prevent and combat transnational organized crime, 2000
  • Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Pornography, 2000
  • Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of Children Armed in conflict, 2000
  • UN Convention against corruption, 2003
  • Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, 2000
  • Protocol Against the Smuggling of Migrants by Land, Sea and Air supplemeting the UN Convention Against Organized Crime
  • United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1982

Throngs of Swazis from the country’s four regions also converged at Ludzidzini Royal Residence to take part in a similar exercise which proved crucial during the drafting stages of the National Constitution which was completed in 2005.
