The Minister of Public Works & Transport Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini launched the first ever construction Industry Council in Swaziland on June 13, 2013.

During the launch the Minister said the Council has been established in terms of the Construction Industry Council Act No: 14 of 2013. The nine member board was drawn from a wide spectrum of representative organisations and stakeholders including Swaziland Association of Indigenous Construction Consultants (SAICC), the Swaziland Association of Architects, Engineers and Surveyors (SAAES), the Swaziland Contractors Association, the construction materials manufacturers and suppliers and relevant Government Ministries. The board comprises of Dan Dlamini as Chairman, David Manyatsi as Deputy Chairperson, other members are Dumsile Shongwe, Mkhululi Mamba, Thulasizwe Dlamini, John Magagula, Makhosini Mndawe, Roberto Russo and Sidumo Dlamini.The newly elected board will be in office for a period not exceeding 4 years.

The council is expected to regulate the construction industrygiving priority to Swazi firms and Swazi companies through policy implementation,establishment of ethical standards,practices and procedure and to set and promote safety standards. Other duties will entail promoting the construction industry and enhance professionalism through training of persons engaged in the industry. The Council will also excise disciplinary control over the conduct of any person engaged in the construction sector.

Making her remarks Minister Dlamini highlighted that “the current Government is operating under “development unusual” drive. In our Ministry, we consider the construction sector as particularly relevant to pushing development in a real and practical sense, through the theme the nation is undertaking various construction projects that expect Swazi firms and companies to participate in, for example the upcoming Western Rail Link project, as well as various planned roads and buildings projects”.

The Minister further congratulated the newly appointed board, and noted that a lot of effort and resources has been committed over the past years while drafting the legislation and in the consultation processes leading to the launch of the Council aimed at attaining development in the country in pursuit of vision 2022.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected Council, the Chairman Dan Dlamini thanked the Minister for playing a significant role in appointing the members and having confidence in them promising that they will perform their duties diligently and transparently.
