The Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), through the Swaziland National Archives, successfully hosted the Uniform Functional File Classification Scheme stakeholders’ meeting on the 7th of January 2014 at the Happy Valley hotel in Ezulwini. The purpose of the workshop is to present the draft Uniform Functional File Classification Scheme to stakeholders before its adoption.

Officers from the clerical and human resource cadres in the different government ministries and private sector attended in their numbers. The meeting was officially opened by the Acting Principal Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of ICT, Mr. Bhekithemba Gama, who thanked the attendees for their tireless efforts and contributions in previous workshops. “Please embrace change as the Ministry is in the process of implementing the pilot phase of the Electronic Documents and Records Management System (EDRMS), of which the uniform functional file classification scheme is a critical component,” he urged. The Acting PS noted that the scheme will be an important working tool to facilitate proper records management in government.

Nqoba Msibi, the Facilitator at the workshop, presented the proposed uniform file classification scheme before the stakeholders suggested modifications.

Worth noting is that the scheme is being developed in readiness for the electronic documents and records management environment, which is aligned with the realization of the country’s vision of attaining first world status by 2022.
