19TH INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL CONFERENCE 20TH – 22ND FEBRUARY 2012

 

THEME: PUBLIC FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (PFM) AS A CATALYST TO ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

 

BACKGROUND: THE EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICAN ASSOCIATION OF ACCOUNTANTS GENERAL (ESAAG)conducts conferences annually in each of the 14 member countries on a rotational basis. The 14 Member countries are Swaziland, Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The 19th ESAAG conference was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Swaziland Dr Sibusiso Barnabas Dlamini.

The purpose of the conference was to foster the exchange of ideas and experiences among Accountants to promote professional and technical understanding and cooperation among member countries by exchanging ideas and experiences related to Government Accounting. This year it was hosted by Treasury Department (Swaziland) and about 515 delegates attended.

The main benefit was to assist Governments to make sound financial decisions and to prioritize her objectives for economic development.
