Roots and Tubers Section PDF Print E-mail

Service

Root crops and tubers are crops that are grown mainly for their roots. They have the advantage of offering a prolonged harvest season and a long storage life. They also produce a large amount of food in a small amount of space. The Root and Tubers section is responsible for screening and evaluating cassava, sweet potatoes, and taro germplasm (both introduced and or locally collected) for yield and adaptation to Swaziland’ s Agro – ecological zones. The section is also tasked with coming up with production practices that are as good as or better than the ones currently available to address the shortage of improved, high yielding, palatable and shortage of early maturing varieties..
