On Monday, August 6, 2012 His Majesty King Mswati III commissioned the Sibaya -- the People’s Parliament at Ludzidzini Royal Residence, where Swazis meet to consult on issues affecting their way of life. It is also a platform for every Swazi, irrespective of political affiliation, religion, colour, gender or creed, to air their views about the future of the country economically, politically, socially and otherwise.

In his opening address, the King said Swaziland had undergone tremendous challenges in recent years. He stated that the economic crisis, which has not only affected Swaziland, but the world at large, had resulted in uncertainty about salaries for civil servants, among other challenges. The King noted however, that the Nation had shown resilience by surviving these trying times.

“The current situation, however, does not mean we are entirely in the clear and we, as a Nation, should continue to work on finding lasting solutions,” he cautioned.

The King then opened the floor for the Nation to make submissions on economic recovery, job creation, poverty alleviation, self sustenance, 2013 national elections and the ratification of treaties and charters.

On Tuesday, a majority of speakers called for the removal of Finance Circular No. 1 of 2010, which gives politicians huge benefits during and after their term of office......................more
