Ladies and Gentlemen
I have the honour, at this magnificent banquet, of introducing both His Majesty, the King, as well as His Excellency, Brother Leader, Colonel Muammar Al-Qaddafi, Leader of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamarihiya.
His Excellency's visit to the Kingdom is proving every bit as exciting an occasion as the Swazi Nation expected.
Your Excellency, you will have been greeted by the warmest of welcomes from Swazis of all walks of life. To the entire Nation, the occasion of a visit of an internationally renowned African head of state, whose country has assisted so many nations on this continent, is a truly special event.
Your Excellency, you are developing in the people of this continent the belief that countries should control their own resources and their own development, and that we should unite in joint projects for mutual benefit. You have played a leading role in the Non-Aligned Movement and have initiated a process which has led to the foundation of the African Union. Indeed, you are already described as the architect of that new community of African nations. What happened in Durban this week is the realisation of your vision. We all pray that this momentous initiative will prove the unifying and fortifying force that is crucial in dealing effectively with the challenges of poverty, unemployment and, in many cases, domestic and international conflict. It has become particularly evident that there can be no sustainable development without peace and security.
All Swazis recognise and appreciate the extent to which our own leader, His Majesty the King, has played a crucial role in maintaining unity and stability. The result is a people at peace with each other, accepting the necessity to interact through a process of consultation with a common objective - consensus.
His Majesty is descended from a royal lineage that is unbroken over more than four hundred years and it is through his strong and capable leadership that we have moved from one level of development to the next without the destructive distractions of conflict that have plagued many other nations.
It is, indeed, an auspicious occasion when we have two leaders who have done so much for the development of their respective peoples and we look forward to a further strengthening of the bond that exists between our two leaders and our two nations.
It is now my singular honour to invite His Majesty to address the gathering and the Nation, and thereafter to invite His Excellency, Brother Leader, Colonel Muammar Al-Qaddafi, Leader of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamarihiya, to address this gathering.
Thank you
