The Macroeconomic Analysis and Research Division of the Economic Planning Office is tasked with undertaking macroeconomic research, analysis and forecasting to inform public policy formulation and implementation, as well as budgetary analysis. Analysis covers the real, fiscal, monetary and external sectors. Socio-economic issues including HIV/AIDS, population, food security, poverty and unemployment.

The core functions of the Division include:

  • Undertaking macroeconomic forecasting of key economic indicators to inform macroeconomic management,
  • Collating and analysis of economic and socio-economic indicators including medium-term macroeconomic trends
  • Coordination and preparation of regular economic performance review and policy documents
  • Preparation of the Economic Review and Outlook
  • Coordination of the National Development Plan and ensure consistency of development national objectives, strategies and policies.
  • Coordinating the implementation of the simulation modeling tool “Threshold 21”(T21),
  • Carry out analysis of short and medium term budget outturns
  • Liaising with the Ministry of Finance in the preparation of the Budget Outlook Paper, Medium Term Budget Policy Statement and the National Budget Speech
  • Provide information on economic developments to key Stakeholders, Development Partners, International Organizations and the Public.
