His Excellency the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Eswatini visit the ministry of Home Affairs as part of his tour to familiarize himself with different government ministries. The head of Government encouraged staff to embrace culture of respect for work and Superiors, collaboration as well as innovation.

Before proceeding to tour the offices, Dlamini addressed the ministry’s staff where he emphasized that the mission of this government is to rebuild government and the country for future generations. He highlighted that the main objective of government is social profit rather than economic profit. Thus, Government as a whole needs to be customer-centric. Consequently, the Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to deliver paramount service to the satisfaction of the society.

MINISTRY’S STRATEGY

The Prime Minister announced that cabinet have finalized government strategic road map which will be unveiled to the nation and Government Ministries in due course. The road map which will be unveiled by the Minister and Principal Secretary to staff members has been blessed by His Majesty King Mswati III and clearly defines the role that the Ministry of Home Affairs is required to perform. The purpose of the strategic road map is to ensure the country’s success as the saying “if you don’t plan, you are planning to fail”. Furthermore, PM was pleased that the ministry strategic plan was tabled in cabinet but emphasized that is expected to reflect and support the country core strategy.

EMPLOYEES WELFARE

In a bid to promote high performance culture in government, Dlamini encouraged the ministry of Home Affairs staff to work diligently with zero tolerance to corruption. The Prime Minister also brought a sign of hope for all government employees by revealing that staff welfare is a priority for government and Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) will be implemented as from the next coming financial year 2020/2021. He acknowledged that it’s a norm that COLA is paid to employees on annual basis and request employees to bear with government in this fiscal crisis. He added that he’s prayer is that salary increment should be paid on an annual basis while also ensuring that working conditions are improved.

COLLABORATION

The Prime Minister request for collaboration of the five Ministerial departments at Home Affairs to improve productivity and output. As part of the bigger whole of government, the Ministry is invited to work well with other ministries as it is witnessed in the country ports of entry where home affairs is working effectively with Eswatini Revenue Authority (SRA), Royal Eswatini Police Services etc.

 INNOVATION

As the country moves to fulfill His Majesty’s dream for first world status by 2022, PM requested the Ministry leadership to focus on innovation and digitizing of services such as biometric systems used in first world countries. The assignment is to improve service delivery through e-government program to avoid instances where people waste time and funds to come check for documents that are still under process. Dlamini emphasized that government will provided support where needed. He further encouraged the Immigration department to put in place all security features as modernization of immigration system implemented to ensure there are no unlawful duplication of documents.

Conversely, welcoming the Prime Minister was the Minister for Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe who told Dlamini that the mandate of her Ministry is that all Emaswati should be registered by 2022 and that the ministry will continue assisting government to curb corruption and help build a better economically viable Eswatini. Before the minister, Principal Secretary in the ministry of Home Affairs Mr. Antony Masilela stated that Home Affairs is one of the biggest Ministries in the Kingdom with over 400 staff members in five departments namely; Administration, National Civil Registration and Vital Statistics, Immigration, Refugees and National Events and Celebrations. He Further expressed leadership and staff joyfulness for the tour by the Prime Minister and request that such should be continuous because it keeps everyone on toes.
