The Minister of Public Works & Transport Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini with Senators and Senior Officials from the Ministry toured the Lukhula - Big Bend road to see its current state. The tour took place on the May 23, 2014.

The Minister addressed the media after the tour that the exercise was meant to show senators how depleted the road was .Dlamini further noted that the Ministry will meet with the Ministry of Finance soon to forge a way forward on refurbishing the road since it was link for tourists and business people between South Africa and Mozambique for transporting their goods.

The Minister added that the E 5.5 Million that was allocated for this financial year for fixing the rod will be used for redesigning the road. She further thanked Senators for availing themselves to inspect the current state of the road.

Meanwhile, Senate Deputy President Ngom’yayona Gamedze urged the Ministry of Public Works & Transport to prioritize the refurbishment of the road due to its present condition. He thanked the Minister for bringing along Engineers form her Ministry during the tour who are expects in the field and hoped it will be swiftly attended to since it was used by a lot of tourists.

Senators also present during the tour were Prince Mahlaba, Moi Moi Masilela, MP’s Joseph Souza and Jacob Siwela to mention a few.
