Government's responsibility in the Agricultural sector lies primarily within the Ministry of Agriculture.The obligation of the Ministry of Agriculture is to ensure household food security and increased sustainable agricultural productivity through dlversification and enhancement of commercial agricultural activities.  The Ministry is also responsible for the development and promotion of appropriate technologies and efficient extension services while ensuring stakeholder participation and sustainable development and management of natural resources in the country.


To achieve and maintain an efficient and sustainable agricultural sector that will ensure national and household food security and a sustainable growth of Swaziland’s agriculture and national economy with equitable wealth distribution throughout the value chain.


To transform Swaziland's agricultural production system from its prevailing subsistence mode to more commercially oriented production systems through commercialisation and the diversification of small and medium (S&M) holder SNL and TDL agricultural production within the next four to five years

Agriculture & Extention Department

The department as its mandate has programs and activities that are centered around the promotion of a sustainable agriculture production, conservation tillage system and home economics for the sustainable utilization of natural resources and the capacity building of farmers through the extension service for improved crop productivity and reduced food insecurity.

Agricultural Research and Specialists Department

Responsible for the development and identification of applied and adaptive agricultural production technologies that ensure household and national food security, sustainable growth of the agro-business sector and national economy. The department is also responsible for phytosanitary services, safe-guarding food safety measures and conservation of national plant genetic resources heritage.

Veterinary & Livestock Production Services Department

The mandate of the Department of Veterinary and Livestock Services is to prevent the spread of animal diseases and zoonoses, promote animal health and welfare and equip livestock producers with adequate knowledge, skill and technical know-how on the efficient management of all resources that will ensure profitable returns and an efficient and sustainable livestock industry.
