The Ministry was established in September 2008 following a realignment of portfolios by the Government of Swaziland. This is a new Ministry and its portfolio responsibilities were drawn from a number of Ministries, such as Labour Administration and Industrial Relations, from the now defunct Ministry of Enterprise and Employment, the National Human Resources Planning and Development, from the Ministry of Public Service, Scholarships Administration from the Ministry of Education.
The Ministry endeavors to improve the standard of living through the provision of decent work and Social protection and its core activities revolve around improving economic growth through:-
a) Ensuring an educated and skills nation;
b) Social Dialogue;
c) Harmonious industrial relations;
d) Protection and empowerment of Vulnerable groups through Social Security; and
e) Improved service delivery through decentralization of most services
To create a conducive environment for sustainable development through decent Work.
To create, maintain and improve an environment for labour protection, employment, Social protection and Social Dialogue in order for foster economic growth, and social Justice.
To facilitate improved safety and health at the workplace.
To increase the effectiveness and comprehensiveness of inspections.
Develop legislative and policy framework
To avail an educated and skilled nation through localization
To strengthen safety nets; protection and empowerment of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups through Social Security
Improve service delivery through decentralization of service.
