This is a programme that was designed to assist in improving stock for the Swazis. This programme was planned to cover evaluation of the recommended breeds and their crosses through performance testing to determine their qualities and to exploit heterosis through crossbreeding. The main objective is to supply bulls that are genetically superior for the important performance traits of beef production, throughout the country and specifically on Swazi Nation Land (SNL). This programme is based on 4 main breeds which are the Nguni, Brahman, Simmentaler and the Drakensberger. The breeding stations produce the bulls needed for the genetic improvement of the national herd. A selection programme is maintained for each of the breed types so that only above average bulls are distributed to the communities.
