Mandate
The mandate of the bull Loan Section is to loan out Government performance tested bulls to livestock producers at rural level, public and private institutions in order to improve the genetic quality of the indigenous Nguni breed. 
 
Vision
The vision of the section is increased livestock commercialization in Swaziland through the improvement of the indigenous Nguni breed by the local communities, public and private sectors.

Our mission is to provide quality service to livestock farmers and other stakeholders through effective extension service.

Service

The Bull Loan Scheme uses the concept of providing improved bulls to cattle owners with the aim of improving the genetic merit of the national herd started in the early 60s. Balegane Bull Loan Scheme loans out Government bulls to competent communal area farmers, community based group ranches and some small scale private farms, free of charge for a period of three years after which the bulls are returned to the breeding station. A new one is issued as a replacement to avoid inbreeding. The Bull Loan Scheme aims to improve the indigenous Nguni cattle through selection and dissemination of the improved genetic material of the Performance Bred Bulls to the Swazi national herd. Bulls are distributed to SNL and TDL farmers through the Livestock Extension Service.     

Who Benefits from the Service

• An individual farmer
• An approved representative of an organised livestock co - operative/ association operating in the Swazi Nation Land and recognised by the Director of Veterinary Services.
• An Approved representative of a private institution

How To Apply for the Service    

• The eligible individual or institution must send an application to the Regional Livestock Extension Officer (LEO).
• The LEO will then issue an application form which has to be filled.
• The LEO then makes an assessment to approve or disapprove the eligibility of the application (see bull loan scheme policy).
