The Electronic and Records Management System (EDRMS) Workshop which was conducted by KQ Consultants at the Swaziland National Archives has drawn to a close. The workshop was divided into three categories, which started with a meeting for Under-Secretaries of all Government Ministries on August 22, 2012 and was followed by a workshop for Heads of Departments and Supervisors on August 23, 2012. End Users were addressed on August 24 and 27th 2012.

Opening the workshop, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of ICT, Bheki Gama explained the phases of the workshop. “The Feasibility Study is Phase 1 of the project, followed by Phase 2 which will be the piloting phase, while Phase 3 will be the roll-out of the project to all Government Ministries and Departments.”The workshop was mainly a needs assessment exercise to establish the work-flow process in all Government Departments. It included a feasibility study focused on the processes that are done on a daily basis that result in the establishment of a record as well as the flow in each department to establish if all information is stored in the Government Records Management System, according to Nqoba Msibi, one of the project team members. “The report that will be derived from the feasibility study will enable us to find recommendations on the most suitable solution for the Government of Swaziland,” he said. The EDRMS will assist to improve communications systems within the civil service, record movement of internal communication, and fully equip registries with IT capacity, noted National Archives Director, Kholekile Mthethwa.
