Cabinet has approved the climate change policy.This was announced by the Prime Minister Dr Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini when receiving a donation of 25 water tanks from the Swaziland Banking Association to help in mitigating the impact of the severe drought experienced by the Kingdom.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the effect of climate change has been made more visible by the drought which is the worst in a generation. He announced that with the policy in place, a climate change fund will be established which will ensure citizens affected by the drought have access to assistance.

He thanked the Banking Association for assisting Government is helping the affected noting that a lot of farmers who have bank loans are now in a dilemma because of the effects of the droughts. He pleaded with banks to work in cooperation with such farmers and rearrange payment terms.

The Prime Minister thanked all donors who have risen to the challenge of assisting the country deal with the effects of the drough. These include the United Nations and the European Union.

The president of the Swaziland Banking Association Fikile Nkosi said it was incumbent of them to assist Government as they had seen the impact of the drought. She said they share the same ethos as banks when it comes to social responsibility.
