GOVERNMENT PRESS STATEMENT

NO 07: 2013

LAW TO REGULATE FLYING

Following wide-spread and ridiculous reports internationally on Swaziland’s pronouncement of a law to regulate flying (Aviation Act), which has been intentionally distorted in the media to embrace witchcraft connotations, we wish to state the following:

  • There is no such clause in the laws of this country and no announcement has been made to regulate “flying witchcraft broomsticks” or any other related bizarre act.
  • We have no record of Swazis buying into the “flying witchcraft broomstick” myth and there could not have been a law to go with it. It is therefore a dead story in this part of the world.
  • We want to believe that some elements wanted to take advantage of cheap audiences abroad using this nonsensical myth to diminish the dignity and pride of the Swazi people.
