PRESS STATEMENT NO 3 OF 2014

BY THE RT HON PRIME MINISTER

DR B.S.S.DLAMINI

TO ANNOUNCE THE NEW AMBASSADORIAL APPOINTMENTS

THE CABINET OFFICES

TUESDAY 18 FEBRUARY 2014

It is my honour this morning, to announce that His Majesty has made the following Ambassador and High Commissioner appointments to Swaziland diplomatic missions abroad:

to the Republic of South Africa     -  His Royal Highness Prince Senzangakhona

to the United Arab Emirates          -    His Royal Highness, Prince Gcina

to the State of Kuwait                      -   Mlondi Dlamini

to the Republic of Mozambique   -   Christian Nkambule

to the Republic of Singapore         -   Sotja Dlamini

to Switzerland                                  -    Njabuliso Gwebu

to the Democratic Republic of     -     Promise Msibi

Ethiopia

It is my privilege to convey to these individuals the congratulations and very best wishes of His Majesty’s Government and, indeed, the Swazi Nation.

For each of you this is an appointment of great responsibility. You will carry with you, every day of your lives, the duty to promote the image and reputation of our country, and to represent and protect the Swazis in your respective countries, encouraging all to register according to established procedures.

In addition, you have a professional obligation to embark on vigorous and pro-active trade, tourism and investment promotion. I take this opportunity to encourage you to search out all the relevant promotional literature that will give you and your staff the necessary detail to support your promotional initiatives.  I hasten to remind the respective Ministries of their responsibility to ensure enough of the literature is sent to all diplomatic missions in hard copy and electronic form.

This is not a casual plea. We need more foreign investment of the requisite quality in our country. We need to obtain the best trade agreements for our manufacturers. And we need potential tourists to be fully aware of what a wonderful holiday awaits them in the Kingdom of Swaziland.

It is an exciting opportunity for you to impact so directly on

the future economic growth of our country. And in this regard I ask you to comply precisely with your parent Ministry’s request for the submission of comprehensive quarterly written reports on your activities together with details of the outcome, or effect, of those efforts.

I ask the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to not only ensure, in respect of the quarterly reports, that it imposes the necessary pressure on any non-compliant missions but also that the information received is properly shared with the respective Ministries.

The Conference currently being held in the Kingdom, which has brought all our ambassadors together for discussions and consultations, will prove highly valuable in the development and harmonization of strategies and procedures. But please remember how important it will be to convert words into hard action on the ground. I cannot over-emphasise how enormous is the value of having representatives of our country, well-briefed and highly motivated, in the respective countries, and actively promoting trade and investment for Swaziland.

It remains for me, on behalf of His Majesty’s Government, to wish the ambassadors success and happiness in their new appointments, and to encourage the entire group of ambassadors in foreign missions to work tirelessly to achieve a high level of impact in their key result areas over the coming months.

Thank you.
