AT THE LAUNCH OF THE SWAZI ACCOUNTANT JOURNAL

AT THE CABINET OFFICES

THURSDAY 26 JUNE 2014

Honourable Minister for Finance

Members of the Council of the Swaziland Institute of

Accountants

Representatives of the Media

Ladies and Gentlemen

I am delighted to welcome you all today for this special event in the history of the accountancy profession in Swaziland.

Everyone loves a magazine and, regardless of the content, the more visually attractive you make it, the more impact it is likely to make. Or, at the very least, it will sell plenty of copies.

And this first edition of the first journal of our Institute of Accountants is certainly an eye-catching number. And not just appealing in a superficial way. This is a well-balanced, highly informative and interesting magazine with plenty for readers across the spectrum - from those no longer directly involved with the profession, like myself, to students and practising accountants needing to keep up to date in their continuous professional education.

The journal is well designed, with plenty to inform as well as divert the reader. In keeping the reader up to date on subjects as wide ranging as audit committees and corporate responsibility it is highly informative which,I am sure, is the primary objective.

The journal also appears to be well supported in terms of advertising space taken by members of the profession, backed up with enlightening details of how much you get back from every lilangeni thus spent. With a wide circulation to companies and others outside the immediate profession I am sure the advertisers will get their moneys’ worth from displaying their services in full.

I congratulate the Council of the Swaziland Institute of Accountants for taking this prodigious first step. It shows initiative as well as a genuine desire to advance the profession in our country. We are aware of the need for a large influx of trainees into the profession and this journal, vigorously circulated, will make a significant contribution to stimulating interest among the youth. That is a considerable challengeknow we need The appeal of this first edition is such that it begs the second, hitherto unanswered question – when is the next edition?   I see the Swazi Accountant having a very bright future and look forward to receiving future copies.

I Thank You
