The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has embarked on an exercise to decrease road accidents caused by stray livestock on the country’s roads.
The initiative has been launched by the Minister of Public Works and Transport Pastor Lindiwe Dlamini with the first phase covering the Mafutseni-Lukhula public road.
To support the initiative, Sincephetelo MVA Fund has donated 15 bicycles towards a bicycle patrol initiative to stray animals along the Mafutseni-Lukhula public road.
The bicycles will be used by community police, who will be appointed by traditional authorities along the MR3 main road to work as road rangers and drive away livestock from the road.
The Minister said the bicycles will be used to patrol areas which include Lukhula, Mpaka, Malindza, Ngogola and Mafutseni. She thanked MVA for the donation stating that the bicycles will be used to ensure that the country’s road users and motorists are safe.
