Senator Edgar Hillary has been sworn-in as the new Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs following his appointment by His Majesty King Mswati III.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Acting Attorney General, Sabelo Matsebula at the Cabinet Offices on Wednesday morning.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Hon. Prime Minister Dr Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini congratulated the Minister for earning the trust of Their Majesties. He noted that Senator Hillary had served diligently as the Commissioner of Correctional Services and later the Commissioner of Police after rising through all the ranks as a police officer serving His Majesty King Sobhuza II as a recruit.

The Prime Minister said there was already a vacancy in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs as the previous Minister had removed himself from Cabinet, and though he was present in Cabinet meetings, never made any contributions for months.

“He removed himself and no one else is responsible for his removal. I had to report that to their Majesties and they agreed that he be replaced.”

The Prime Minister advised the new Minister to address the challenges faced by the Ministry of Justice. He also advised courts to solve challenges faced by the judiciary saying it is not the duty of the executive to solve challenges of another arm of Government.

“We expect courts to do self-correction.”
