FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS FOR THE DIGITAL VEHICLE REGISTRATION SYSTEM

 

Do I have to pay more or less for the newly introduced enhanced and automated Vehicle Registration System?

  • No additional costs come with the new system.

By digital what exactly do you mean?

  • This basically means documents will now be computer printed, eliminating the previously hand- written blue-books.

How long does it take for me to get my certificate?

  • The certificate will be printed immediately over the counter.

When will the system be operational?

  • The system will be operational from the launch date (23 October 2019).

What are the new improvements in this system?

  • The vehicle will be registered and appear in the Vehicle Registration System in real time unlike before where the registration document (blue-book) was hand written and license disc issued to the owner. Previously capturing details would take up to 14 days to appear on the system.
  • License renewal will be spread throughout the year, giving the vehicle owner 365 days from the date of issue. This will eliminate the quarterly license renewal intervals.
  • The new system enables the police to verify vehicle details through scanning the license disc and it also comes with other security features,

What documents are required from me to get the certificate?

  • For the first capturing into the system, the vehicle owner will be required to bring the current blue-book, personal identity card (ID) and the license renewal fees.

Does this mean I no longer have to queue in long lines to renew my license?

  • The elimination of the quarterly license renewal system will drastically improve revenue queues during the license renewal period as this will now be a rolling exercise throughout the year. The certificate is generated in less than two minutes eliminating the length of time spent in a queue.

 

Can I connect to any portal from my home to register or renew my license?

  • Not yet. Further enhancements will be done on an ongoing basis. For now vehicle registration will be done digitally at the Revenue offices.
