Service
The National Plant Genetic Resources Centre is the national plant gene bank which was established in 1993 as part of a 20 year SADC Plant Genetic Resources Centre regional programme with financial and technical assistance of the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden). This section of the Research Division was established to ensure and promote conservation of plant genetic resources with main focus on indigenous cultivated crops and crop wild relatives (wild vegetables and fruits) mostly considered and referred to as weeds. This is done through ex sutu (in a gene bank) and in sutu (in its natural habitat) conservation.

How to apply for the service
• The Agricultural Research Division works through the Extension department.
• As soon as the Research Division has a new innovation it consults with the Extension department who will then formulate ways to reach the people in the communities.
• The Extension Department will call meetings and disperse the innovation to the community members.
Where and How to apply for the service
• The person interested in the innovation must always be in touch with the Extension Officer in his/her community.
