His Majesty King Mswati III has christened the new Swazi MTN Headquarters “Mahlalekhukhwini” House. This happened on Friday May, 17, 2013 when His Majesty the King officially opened the building at Ezulwini. The King noted that every business, both in the mainstream and informal sector, relied heavily on telecommunications and observed thatcellphones remained one of the most common tools used. “In this regard, the role of communication in transforming businesses and subsequently, the economy of the country, cannot be underestimated,” he said.  His Majesty stated that the decentralization of mobile money, such as mobile money services was critical for the growth of Swaziland’s economy.

Themba Khumalo, the MTN Group Operations Executive, making his remarks on behalf of Sifiso Dabengwa, the MTN Group President and CEO, said the new building served not only as a home for MTN Swaziland, but also as an important landmark that reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to the people of Swaziland. “As MTN Group, we are immensely proud of MTN Swaziland and grateful to the people of Swaziland, the regulator and our local partners for the support they’ve shown us over the last 15 years. MTN Swaziland is today a world class mobile operator that is contributing to the transformation of Swaziland’s socio-economic landscape. “MTN remains steadfast in its commitment to contribute to the growth of economies in the countries where we operate, and Swaziland is no different,” he said. Also in attendance was the Her Royal Highness the Queen Mother, Emakhosikati, the Prime Minister, Dr. Barnabus Dlamini, Ministers, Ambassadors, Principal Secretaries, Emabandla, MTN staff, Board Members and people from all walks of life.
